Breaking news, Azimio MP Samuel Arama Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail
Nakuru Town West Member of Parliament, Samuel Arama, has been jailed for six months.
The Legislator was sentenced after the court found him guilty of fraud. He was, however, given an option of a Ksh1.5 million fine.
Arama was found guilty of abusing his office and authority to fraudulently acquire a piece of land in Nakuru Municipality Block 6/95 by displacing a Muhammad Nisar Ahmed.
He was alleged to have conspired with four others to defraud Nisar by means of dispossessing him of the land between August 3, 2015, and August 11, 2015.
The MP and his co-accused are alleged to have forged a land sale agreement in respect to a piece of land belonging to Nisar while purporting to have been signed by a Yusufu Mustafah Ratemo.
During the hearing of the case, it emerged that the document which claimed the MP had bought the parcel of land from Ratemo at a cost of Ksh.60 million, was not authentic. The court heard that the latter was not the owner of the land in question.
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) urged three High Court judges to permanently block the MP from holding any public office after his conviction in the graft case.
The anti-graft told Judges David Majanja, Murungi Thande and Enock Chacha Mwita to bar Arama and any other politician with integrity issues from presenting themselves for elections.
