A fire destroyed a dormitory at St. Luke Kimilili Boys High School in Bungoma on Monday night.
The fire’s origin is still unknown. 198 students were housed in the burned-out dormitory, Nabwala House.
First responders, including the county government, students, neighbors, teachers, and police officers arrived at the facility to assist in putting out the fire, including firefighters from
To try and put out the raging fire before it could spread to other buildings, they used sand, twigs, water, and other readily available materials. No injuries have been reported thus far.
Despite the minor injuries they sustained while putting out the fire, he continued, all of the boys were safe.
Although the cause of the fire is still unknown, Kimilili Sub-county Police Commander Mwita Maroa suggested that it may have been started intentionally.
He declared that police are looking into what started the fire.
When the students went outside for a break for games at around 5:40 PM, the incident took place.
Before the Bungoma firefighting engine brigade arrived, the students extinguished the fire with assistance from the teachers, neighbors, and lower-level staff.
The school has experienced fire outbreaks previously.
