Jobless P1 teachers received some good news after it was announced by the Teachers Service Commission that they will be hired despite the policy change.
There are over 300,000 teachers who are holding the P1 teaching certificate which has now been termed as obsolete. They will now be prioritized in future employment.
This is good news to the teachers because they will now not have to go the hard way of retraining.
The Teachers Service Commission had said that teachers need to do a retraining programme in order to upgrade to the new nine month Diploma in Primary Teacher Education.
This was aimed at making the teachers to have the current requirements that are needed before employment.
The teachers can now smile after the directive that was issued by Nancy Macharia.
This has now reduced the fears that they will not be employed. They should therefore welcome this move and thank the commission for considering their employment.
