The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission have release timetable for the next year’s general election.
Kenya is expected to conduct its 7th general election on the 2nd Tuesday of August 2022. Preparations are on top gear with new commissioners already recruited into the commission.
Independent electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) plans to start mass voter registration the following month, aiming at six million youths who have attained voting age in the past five years.
Wafula Chebukati was asked to extend the 30 days voter registration exercise set to kick off in October 4th to 60 days so as give voters a humble time to transfer registration to more reliable polling stations.
IEBC uses the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS) to identify registered voters. Ahead of the next year general elections.
The voting Commission is Educating officials on the use of the KIEMS kit to accurately identify voters and make sure that only registered voters are given a chance to vote.
This is due to the fact that currently there are thousands Kenyan youths that Identification Cards and are eligible to vote.
This clearly indicates that the youths will be the ones to determine the next president of the republic of Kenya considering their huge number so far.
This is a special chance to all Kenyans citizens who will be able to practice their political right in choosing the candidate of their choice.
According to the timetable released, a number of events are expected to occur between now and December 2021. Voter Education is the first event and it is expected to run from August to December this year.
The aspirants who may be in short of campaign funds have untill December 9th to conduct public fundraising after which, the fundraising period will be closed.
Public servants who intends to vie in the next election are also reminded to resign from their position six month before the election date. Publication of voters list will be the final activity after which campaign window will officially kick off.
The Election commission have been under pressure from some political quarters who wanted commissioners who conducted the 2017 general elections to resign for manipulating results.
