A Form Fourcandidate student at Othaya Boys High School died after collapsed on his way to school when he was reporting for the new term one on 27/07/2021
The death was shockingly repoted by school principal Mr. EM weitu in a notice issued by newskali.com on 28th July 2021.
“It is with great sadness to inform that there has been a sudden death of Katali Mutinda Kimanthi of ADM No. 5160 stream 4H, who collapsed on the way to school on July 27, 2021,” the notice read.
“He was a student of Othaya Boys High School. Please extend our condolences as we extend our condolences to his family. The burial arrangements will be explained later,” the statement added.
This comes at a time when the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) issued a strict deadline for registration of candidates by schools, which ends on July 31, 2021, without the possibility of an extension.
The KNEC CEO also gave stern warning to schools head to ensure that all data for the candidates are correctly captured and avoid doubles registration. This is to help curb exam malpractices.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said the government had released funds to cover tuition and meals to ensure that no child in primary or secondary schools stays at home after July 26, 2021, when the first term begin. it happens.
“The government released all the money that was needed. About Sh17 billion was set aside for the public primary school sector and Sh59 billion for the public secondary school sector,” he said.
He said that each student of the secondary school was allotted ksh 23,000 to meet their needs including lunch and school uniform.
Othaya Boys High School is of extra county status and is located in Nyeri County in the central region of Kenya.The school is a boarding school and currently has an enrollment of 1131 students.
