Primary school teachers who are not employed but hold diploma certificates have all reason to smile as current information shows that TSC is planning to ban employment of P1 teachers with certificates only .
TSC quality assurance director Ruben Nathamburi has said that until teachers upgrade and earn diplomas, they should forget about employability.
The cost of the upgradation program will be ksh. 65000 to 68000 and will be funded by individual teachers. TSC boss Dr. Nancy Macharia argues that the P1 certificates are out of date. She says that primary school teachers who have diplomas are more qualified and therefore more productive than teachers with P1 certificates.
This comes at a time when primary school teachers have complained about the length of time they are being employed by the Teachers Service Commission.
For some people, it took more than ten years without getting employment. Reliable sources state that primary school teachers will now take less than four years to be employed .
